Wednesday - Afterschool Activities Cancelled

A winter storm warning was issued in our area beginning yesterday evening and four to eight inches of snow and below zero temperatures are expected through Thursday night.

MPS has canceled all after-school activities this afternoon due to weather-related travel conditions. These cancellations include Community Education youth enrichment classes, Area Learning Center after-school activities and MPS athletic events. Minneapolis Kids sites will remain open until parents pick up their children. Community Education adult evening classes and adult enrichment activities will operate as normal. We are communicating these cancellations to families now.

Please drive carefully in the winter weather.

Sincerely,

Bernadeia Johnson

Superintendent of Schools

School is OPEN - Be Careful Driving and Walking

The city has been working the streets and most intersections have been treated.  And they are still slippery.  Snow continues and the termperatures continue to drop.  What might have been slush and water is turning to ice.  Some areas look fine but are dangerous.  Drive caefully.

The hill on the east side of the school on 47th is SLIPPERY.  If at all possible drop students on the sides on in back on 46th.  Please keep the front clear and the hill is slippery.

Walking is not easier.  The sidewalks are slippery.  The glaze under the fresh snow is frozen and making walking conditions more difficult.  If you drive to school, come early and becareful where you park.  Be careful walking from your car.  The sidewalks are no safer than the street.  Both are slippery.

Plan for some extra time in order not to be in that rush.  Slow down and be safe.

Winter in Minnesota is here for the season.

Winter Storm Warning Issued

winter storm warning has been issued in our area beginning this evening. Four to eight inches of snow and below zero temperatures are expected through Thursday night.

We are communicating to the public that school is in session this week and that MPS will operate as normal, but that buses may run behind schedule. We are promoting winter safety tips and the ways that families can stay informed about school closures/delays, etc. (through the new texting feature, for example).

We will continue to keep the MPS website and social media sites updated with any new information, as weather always seems to have an interesting way of changing course.
