SW Senior Fartun Abukar Fainalist Gates Millennium Scholars

 

 

Great news for Southwest Senior Fartun Abukar – she is a finalist for the Gates Millennium Scholarship. On April 15^th, the winners of this prestigious award will be announced.

Fartun is a current senior at Southwest High School, part-time Normandale student, Upward Bound participant, and AVID rock star. She was nominated by her Upward Bound advisor for the Gates Millennium Scholarship.

For the 1,000 students who win the Gates, they provide scholarship to cover the cost of tuition through graduation at any college/university of the student’s choosing. This scholarship is renewable so long as the student maintains satisfactory academic performance in college, so that a student can study through a Doctoral degree on the Gates Scholarship, if they so chose.
