Last weekend the Southwest debate team debated 36 rounds and won 20 of them at teh first tournament of the season at Eastview.
In the varsity division:
Henry Aoki earned first
place for speaker points. Lily Ren earned 3rd place speaker points. Out of the
28 teams Henry and Russell Pekala finished in 5th place and Ben Stevens and
Lily finished 7th place.
In the junior varsity
division: Our only JV Sarah Kate Stone and Henry Twiss finished in 14th place
out of 36 teams and only a few speaker points away from boosting them into the
top ten.
In the novice division:
Out of 70 teams we had two teams in the top 20--Natalie Mackey and Mia
Nesalaris-Custis, Nick Mulligan and Maisey Martin.
In summary, seven of the
eight debate teams had winning records!
