Thursday and Friday 7 pm Dance
Southwest Winter Dance PerformanceThursday and Friday Dec. 15th and 16th 7:00 p.m. in the SW Auditorium
The end of the semester brings SW dance students onto the SW stage with their dance work.
Student choreography as well as guest works by Kenna Camara Cottman , Dario and Giselle Mejia and dance instructor Colleen Callahan.

Rain, Ice and Snow
Busy time of the year and now more winter temperatures but rain. Be careful of ice. The morning could be interesting.
It is that time of year that any given morning could be an adventure. This morning some of our schools were without electricity. There are happenings each day. Listen to the early morning radio, Wear warm clothing and adjust to the conditions.
The building is open at 6:00 am. Thus, there is a warm place if you get caught in between for some reason. Walking and parking are always problems but on ice and snow days the conditions get even more intense. Pay attention to parking restrictions on all the surrounding streets. Plan ahead for walking conditions. Be safe.
We try to deal with the various conditions but there are numerous city streets around us and the hill in front of the east building and coming up from the park. Safety is important and you need to plan for cold and slippery conditions. We want you in school safely.

SWHS Student Broadway Reviewers in Print
This is Southwest's second year participating in the Hennepin Theatre Trust's Critical View Program. In the program, selected students from area high schools get complimentary tickets to all the Broadway touring shows on opening night and learn how to review productions.
Reviews from Sophomores Zoe Makila and Elizabeth Rinde for Les Miserables, which the students saw last Tuesday at the Orpheum opening, were published in the Twin Cities Daily Planet! Links to the reviews are below.
As the SW adviser for the program, I ask that you join me in congratulating Zoe & Elizabeth on a job well done!

Holidazzle Dec 17 and 18 Featuring Southwest Band
The Target Holidazzle is a series of parades that take place at Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis and kickoffs always the day after Thanksgiving. In 1992 the first parade drew crowds that were estimated to be over 300,000 and have become a popular destination for friends and family to congregate together during the busiest time of the year.
The thrilling and exciting spectacles are free and open to the public, which runs along Nicollet Mall (between 12th and 4th St.). The schedule has four remaining parades for this week starting Thursday Dec. 15 and runs all the way through Sunday Dec. 18.
During these events spectators will be able to enjoy appearances by high profile figures and great performances from different marching bands to energize the holiday spirit. Starting this Thursday the Marching band will be the Lean Mean Performance Machine (Hopkins High School) and the next day a great performance by the Bleep Drum Corps (the self-proclaimed group of skilled performers from the Montevideo, MN.)
Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 16-17) will feature Southwest High School Marching Band and they will wrap up the Holidazzle with the Minnesota Chorale choir on the last day.

Busy week ahead
The end of the calendar year carries variety of feelings for people. It is both a happy and sad time. Lots of memories and regrets happen during this time of the year.
We are trying to keep it together. Lots of holiday concerts. Busy time of school year with the approaching end of semester. College applications are due for many seniors. Early acceptance letters are coming in daily. The weeks are ones of stress and celebration.
But we need to stay up with the homework and projects. Even with cold weather we need to study for tests and pay attention to what is happening in class. School and learning continue to move forward.
Expect some mood changes and a bit of impatience as the number of days until the break decreases. For teens this is a very confusing time of year. Friends believe all kinds of things. Families have different obligations. Teens are too big for the typical toys and yet like the mystery of the season. Too big and yet not big enough.
