Why is the Levy Important?

Levies and Referendum are two methods of collecting property
taxes. Property taxes include taxes to support the school district, the city
and the county. - Referendum is
voter approved and has specific identified uses which are agreed upon by
the voters.
- Levies are
voted on by the school board
- The state sets
all levy authority for schools. We can only levy for what is
authorized in statute (Equity levy, Transition levy, Q comp)
The Minneapolis Public Schools Board of Education will discuss the
Property Tax Levy on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. This meeting is
open to the public (no delegations) or watch from home on Channel 15.
