Studenet Council and Dances

During the 2012-2013 school year a group of students protested our new dance policy by hosting their own free for all dances.  The  students call these "Balz dances".

Unfortunately, the popularity of these events caused our student council to lose several thousand dollars at last year's winter formal dance.  Needless-to-say, our student council was surprised that the student body opted to attend the more dangerous and entirely inappropriate balz dance.

For this year, we simply did not anticipate the student body's renewed interest in our dances, and we feel terrible that some students will not be able to attend.  That being said, we clearly advertised the limited availability by making school wide announcements, placing posters around school, and making announcements on-line.

Looking ahead, We're supporting a Sadie's Hawkins dance with our National Honors Society in early November, and we're excited about providing a fun opportunity at winter formal.

Thank you for voicing your concern.  We are absolutely thrilled that so many Southwest students are interested in gathering for a fun evening of appropriate dancing.

Southwest Student council advisor
