Michael Goar leads MPS
as interim superintendent
Michael Goar
on Feb. 1 officially took the helm of Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) as
interim superintendent. Goar, formerly the chief executive officer of the
school district, assumed the role after Dr. Bernadeia Johnson resigned from the
position.
“I’d like to
thank Dr. Johnson for her service and dedication to MPS,” said Goar, noting
that he is committed to building on the foundation that she laid with minimal
disruption to students and families.
Michael Goar
is a graduate from Washburn High School and has over 20 years’ experience in
educational leadership. “I am excited to lead the school district as we work to
accelerate student achievement and engage more with the community,” Goar said.
“You can expect to hear from me and my leadership regularly.”
Other key
initiatives that Goar has said he will continue include Acceleration 2020, the
school district’s strategic plan; right-sizing the Davis Center to support
schools as the unit of change; establishing and supporting Community
Partnership schools; and providing clear school recovery plans for most
vulnerable schools within MPS.
