Families and Friends
I believe that it is very important that we all encourage all seniors to attend the Senior Overnight Party.
As many of you know, last spring my youngest first cousin was involved in a serious car accident the night of his graduation in Texas. For reasons only known to him, he decided to not attend his senior party at the last minute and he was out driving around with some friends. He was not driving the car, but he suffered the most injuries. He was in a coma for over two weeks and now he lives in a rehab facility that has patients with traumatic brain injuries.
He is currently learning how to hold a spoon again and learning skills like brushing his own teeth. He had been accepted into Texas A&M and now he will never be able to pursue that dream or any other dreams. The damage to his brain is such that the doctors believe he will never walk again and have the ability to form speech.
This tragic accident continues to tear at my family and I do not want to see any other family experience this kind of loss. So, please encourage our seniors to attend the party. I believe every year across the country stories like mine happened because teenagers will be teenagers, so let’s try to keep ours safe.
