Yesterday's Star Tribune reported that a new study by the American Automobile Association Foundation indicates that the more teenage passengers that are in a car the greater the risks. Teenage drivers are involved "almost four times more often than older drivers." according to the report. The report continues, the risk of accident increases "by almost half when a 16- or 17-year old driver has one teenage passenger, it doubles with two teen passengers, and it quadruples with three or more young passengers."
As the snow and ice are gone and we approach longer daylight hours and the summer, it is more likely the teenage driver will be on the road more often. As we approach the Prom and Graduation season, there will be more teen drivers. This is a great time to talk about safely and responsibility. Every year the Start Tribune reports a horrible accident involving teens. Let's encourage our children to be safe.
Statistics do not have to be facts in your family. Practicing safe driving habits is important all year long and for all drivers. Let's be careful out there.
