Minneapolis School Graduation Requirements Changed

MPS graduation requirements

Graduating in 2019 or later?

Good news — we recently changed our graduation requirements to benefit you!

By increasing the number of elective credits we require for you to graduate, we’re giving you more room to personalize your schedule and pursue your passions.

Each yearlong class is worth one full credit and each semester-long class is worth one half credit. Below is a breakdown of the 21.5 credits you need to graduate.

Graduating in 2016, 2017 or 2018?

Since you and your classmates have already started mapping out your path to graduation, nothing is
changing with your graduation requirements. The only thing that changed is the way your
credits are counted. To make things simple:

Each yearlong class is now worth one full credit and each semester-long class is worth one half credit. Because of this, the number of credits required to graduate is 21.5 instead of the previously required 64.5. You aren’t getting any less education; we’re just counting it differently. And don’t worry about your credits from previous years — we’ll take care of converting them.
