The Southwest Debate Team competed in the Minnesota State Debate Tournament this weekend. With over 138 teams beginning the Laker Debaters finished the season in great form by earning the distinction of being number two in the state. This is the first major state title for the Southwest Debate Team in the history of the school.
In the novice division Taylor Leighton and Noah Rothman maxed it to the state rounds and finished 5th in the state.
Two teams into the state rounds in the junior varsity division. Kia Okuma and Sirene Benjaafar finished 5th in the state. Sophia Deady and Sowda Mohamed finished number 2 in the state.
For the first time, Southwest two debaters entered the varsity state rounds. Avi Gori and Mariah Oxley finished the season earning the title of 5th in the state.
Based on total points the Southwest Debate Team earned the title of number 2 in the state. Eastview High School was number one in the state.
