Southwest and Osaka Prefectural Kasugaoka Establish Sister School Agreement


Minneapolis Southwest High School and Osaka Prefectural Kasugaoka Senior High School in Osaka, Japan officially established a Sister School Agreement this week.  The two schools have been in a “partnership” status for the past eight years.  Principal Toshiaki Hatanaka and Bill  Smith signed the official documents Monday, December 2, 2013.  Principal Hatanaka came to the United States to sign the agreement in order to present the document from his school to the Education Department in Japan.

 

During the eight years over 400 Japanese and American students have participated in the cultural exchange staying with their respective host families and being part of the host’s school.  In addition to an emersion in the language student visit local sites and travel with host family to various events and traditional happenings.

 

Southwest teacher Kyoko French established the partnership several years ago.  She and her students have traveled to Japan and received Japanese students and teachers for many years.  The Sister School Agreement is an official status for the school in Japan and is recognized as a distinction by the government and education department.

Principals Hatanaka and Smith displayed  the signed documents.  The two sets of documents are in Japanese and English languages.

 

A representative group of students and teachers from Osaka Perfectural Kasugaoka Senior High School will visit Southwest High School this March.  In the summer, Southwest students and Japanese Instruction Kyoko French will “exchange” with these students in Japan.

SISTER SCHOOL AGREEMENT

 

   Ibaraki City and Minneapolis have built a strong relationship since their agreement to become sister cities in 1980. 

   As part of this relationship, Osaka Prefectural Kasugaoka Senior High School and Southwest High School have had regular visits to each other for the past eight years. 

We sincerely hope that through our mutual understanding and friendship, this bond of ours will contribute in fostering students as citizens of the world who shoulder the challenges of the 21st century.  Hence, we agree to ratify our status as official sister schools.

  茨木市とミネアポリス市は1980年に姉妹都市提携をして以来、良好な関係を築いてきました。
