Thank you to the several who volunteered to start a review
of what a different schedule might be for the coming years. Viewing the
clock and calendar as a tool rather than an restrictions, several different
models have been developed. Research indicates that flexibility is a key
ingredient in a successful model –not the only one but an important one.
Research also indicates the previously popular “block” schedule is not the
ideal. As you might suspect, research tends to indicate that some variation
that combines the short, many periods a day with a longer period but limited
number per day is more accepted but extremely difficult to manage.
-
College-like scheduling for upper level students
(maybe just seniors first year)
-
An extended day for flexibility of scheduling
o Regular
day – a 7 period, 50 approx. minute periods
o “extra”
periods zero, 8, 9 and 10
o For
example – start of first class at 7:10 am and start of last class at 5:50 pm
(or some variation of this)
