2015-2016 SWHS Common
Book
Southwest High School is proud
to announce the novel Under Ground, by Megan Marsnik, as the Common
Book for 2015-2016.
Set during the tumultuous iron
mining strike on the Range in 1916, the novel chronicles a love affair between a
feisty Slovenian immigrant woman and an anarchist who works for the world's most
interesting labor union: the International Workers of the World, also known as
the 'wobblies." Under Ground features more than a few strong, sassy, Iron Range
female characters. Although fiction, it is based on real people and real events,
one of which led to a key moment in the birth of the labor movement in the
U.S.
The eBook ($3.99) and audiobook
will be available on May 25. The Star
Tribune has also chosen Megan's book as their serial novel this
summer (the

This is a great way for all SW
Lakers to unite. Get your copy of Under Ground and join the common
book movement.
