A group of senior Southwest High School students
won 1st place at the State Destination Imagination (DI) tournament on Saturday,
April 11th.
The group includes: Kaj Anders MacLeod, Seth Colbert-Pollack,
Hannah FitzGerald, Nathaniel Larson, Piper Shatz-Aiken and Becca Tincher.
In
addition to winning in their division they also were given the DI DaVinci Award
for "fusing classical thought and philosophy with art and science to
propose new and creative outlooks on the world."
This group of students went to DI Global Finals at the end
of their 8th grade year and they came in 6th place. They didn't "do
DI" in high school until their senior year when they decided to compete
one last time together before heading off in new directions. The group is
now gearing up to compete at the Destination Imagination Global Finals to be
held in Knoxville, TN from May 20-23, 2015.
A side note to you--you will notice that three of the kids
are speech kids!
Their skit is all
about a student's fears of the future/getting into college--a very relevant topic!
