District Area C Meeting May 20 Field School 6-8 pm

Area C Families and Community Members E-Newsletter

The Sheridan Story link

Over 200,000 children in the state of Minnesota live in food insecurity and do not always know if they will receive their next meal. The Sheridan Story's purpose is to respond to this need by closing the weekend food gap between Friday and Monday, when children are not able to participate in the free or reduced meal programs at school.

Thank You !

"It is a luxury to put our interests first. It is an honor to put the interests of others before our own."
Simon Sinek

The Area C Parent Advisory Council has always had great parent leadership.  Liz and Margaret have offered their time over the last 3 years to bring your concerns forward to district leadership for what are often difficult but critical conversations.  I am grateful to them both. These meetings are successful because of them.  Offer them your thanks the next time you see them or send a quick note to:

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

  laughing-eating-family.jpg
SEL IS SOMETIMES CALLED "THE MISSING PIECE," BECAUSE IT REPRESENTS A PART OF EDUCATION THAT IS INEXTRICABLY LINKED TO SCHOOL SUCCESS,

WHAT IS SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL)?
What do we want for our children's future? What skills and competencies do we want them to have to succeed in life?  Educators and parents alike repeatedly assert their hope that children will be happy, have caring and supportive interpersonal relation- ships, demonstrate empathy and care for others, make responsible decisions, and desist from risky and health- compromising behaviors.  Learn more

School Site Councils

The Site Council Policy for MPS
PURPOSE
The Board of Directors of Minneapolis Public Schools is committed to providing support for innovation and excellence in each of its schools and programs. A representative council of school stakeholders is the means that the Board of Directors believes will provide the input to the school's administration to affect appropriate school-based decision making and support the academic achievement and social and emotional growth of all students.

 PRINCIPALS' SHARE BEST PRACTICES
At the Principal PD on May 7th  best practices were shared for recruiting members for their site councils.  A couple of ideas that emerged:
  • Use alternative meeting methods, for example, GoTo Meeting, facetime, conference calls, texting information.
  • Have a go-to person designated, for example a family liaison or other staff, to recruit members.

 Superintendent Search

The Board of Education will conduct a full search process to make a determination on the superintendent role. Michael Goar will serve as the interim superintendent at least through that process.
There are five steps to the search process:
1.         Create a superintendent profile: clarify the beliefs, mindsets, experiences, and skills we are seeking in the new superintendent
2.        Recruit candidates from across the nation
3.        Interview candidates and select finalists
4.        Invite finalists to visit MPS for a final interview
5.        Select superintendent
