This past week we attempt to replace carpet in a couple of our classrooms. In the middle of one of the rooms we exposed some old tile. The majority of the room was a wood sub-floor. At that point work stopped and it was determined that the tile was asbestos. We reviewed the situation and decided that there was not sufficient time to completely renovate so we repaired the disturbed area.
This morning we started air testing around 6:00 am. Our outside asbestos contracting firm determine that the rooms and hallway were safe and our repairs were sufficient at this time. At no point were staff or students in danger.
Thanks to the support and efforts of district personnel we were able to return to a normal schedule as quickly as possible. The health and safety of our staff and students is the first priority.
We will move to abate the tile in the rooms and remove the carpet during break or this summer. If you have any questions, please contract me.
At this time we have an all clear and we are using the classrooms and hall.
