Morgan Shields breaks SW's record for State:
Senior Morgan Shields competed at Wednesday's Alpine Skiing State Finals at Giants Ridge in Biwabik and came back with a record. Morgan has participated in five straight Alpine State Championships-more than any other racer in Southwest's Alpine Skiing history. (Alpine skiing is a sport which allows racers to start competing in 7th and 8th grade.) In 2009 and 2010 Morgan competed as a part of Southwest's qualifying team...the last three years he qualified as an individual through a difficult sections elimination. While Morgan did not place this year, last year he did qualify for the "All State" honor.
Morgan was joined by junior Christian Hedrick who qualified for his first State Championship. Congratulations to both skiers for their accomplishment and to Morgan for being the most prolific Alpine State qualifier Southwest has ever had!
