The Southwest High School Math Team competed in the fourth math team meet of the year on Monday, January 14th at Roosevelt High School. Six of the Minneapolis high schools and one charter school attended the meet. Southwest won again, making it mathematically certain that they will return to the state
tournament in March for the seventh consecutive year.
Some statistics from the meet.
- 112 total students from seven schools in the
Minneapolis division participated.
- 38 Southwest students participated individually at the
meet
- 35 of the Southwest students scored at least one point.
This is particularly impressive, given that the 4th meet of the
year is annually the toughest meet we face.
- The varsity team (official scoring team) earned 52 of a
possible 136 points, continuing their long standing winning streak within
the division. Although this was a lower than anticipated total for our
team, I’m hopeful that we won’t fall too far in the overall standings
within the state. Southwest was in 11th place overall in the
state at the start of the meet.
- The junior varsity team earned 49 of a possible 136
points, unofficially finishing in second place within the division at this
meet and narrowly missing out on finally beating the varsity team. I’m
sure it will happen someday.
