Good morning.
During the week of April 8th (after spring break), the counselors will begin FALL COURSE REGISTRATION with each SWHS student. Students will be coming to the media center through their SOCIAL STUDIES CLASSES to meet with their counselor and select coursework for the 2013-2014 school year. All students had the opportunity to talk with teachers during the SWHS Course Fair in regards to their course selections. Teachers will also be making their course recommendations available for counselors to view as we sit down with each student.
This process does not need to be overwhelming, but it should be taken seriously. You do need to know that each decision you make in high school will affect the options available to you later. It is better to develop a plan that keeps all of your options open. Minneapolis Public Schools’ graduation requirements provide minimum pathways to 4 year college and university admission standards. For that reason, it is important for you to plan as challenging a course program as you can. You should try to find courses that meet your needs and interests and allow you to keep your post secondary options open.
Course descriptions, registration cards and other academic information are available for your viewing at the Southwest website: www.southwest.mpls.k12.mn.us under the ACADEMICS tab. You can also find specific course registration dates for your student on the SWHS Home Page.
The following dates are in place for student registration:
Class of 2014: April 10th and April 12th-2013
Class of 2015: April 15th and April 18th-2013
Class of 2016: April 19th, April 22nd, and April 23rd
