Nashville and Southwest Collaborative Concert

JPII Band & Orchestra Host Collaborative Concert with Minneapolis Southwest

On Friday morning, April 21st, Pope John Paul II High School and the JPII Band and Orchestra programs welcomed Southwest High School from Minneapolis, Minnesota for a collaborative concert and clinic program.

Under the baton of Mr. Jordan Tupper, Director of Instrumental Music at JPII and Mr. Reid Wixson, his counterpart at SWHS, the combined band and orchestra programs presented a challenging and exciting program for the rest of the student body.

Students from Minnesota were treated to welcoming Southern hospitality, a brief combined rehearsal, and then all present were thrilled by a 80 participant band and 30 member orchestra concert.

As the student body settled into their seats, the award-winning SWHS jazz ensemble provided an entertaining program. Mr. Wixson led the combined orchestras in a performance of Yukiko Nishimura’s Petite Suite: Beautiful Flowers.

Mr. Tupper then led the combined band programs in Video Games Live featuring the video game soundtracks of Halo, Civilization IV and Kingdom Hearts. To see a video of their performance, please click here!
