1983 Southwest Alumni Ken Rizer At Vikings Football

This Saturday, December 24, the Minnesota Vikings football team is playing the Washington Redskins in Washington. The game starts at noon.



Tossing the coin at the beginning of the game will be Wing Commander Ken Rizer, Southwest 1983 Graduate. He is the Wing Commander at Andrews Air Force Base and will be honored at the game.

Col. Kenneth R. Rizer is the Commander of the 11th Wing and Joint Base Andrews, MD. The 11th Wing is the host wing for Joint Base Andrews providing security, personnel, contracting, finance and infrastructure support for 6 Wings, 2 Headquarters and over 50 tenant organizations, as well as 60,000 Airmen and families in the national capital region and around the world. The 11th Wing supports contingency operations in our nation's capital with immediate response rotary-assets.

It also provides security for the world's highest visibility flight line and is responsible for ceremonial support with the United States Air Force Band, Honor Guard and Air Force Arlington Chaplaincy. Colonel Rizer earned his commission from the United States Air Force Academy in 1987. He has flown the RF-4 (including an assignment with the Air National Guard) and F-16, and recently transitioned to the UH-1.

Col. Rizer an Operation DESERT STORM and Operation SOUTHERN WATCH combat veteran. Selected as an Olmsted Scholar, he completed Swedish language training prior to studying National Security at Stockholm University, Sweden and Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. He has commanded at the squadron and group levels, and is a command pilot with more than 2,700 flying hours.
