During break it is quiet

Not sure any other public building feels this quiet during break. The school is only a school when it glows in the noise and activity of it's students. For Southwest that starts around 6 in the morning and goes to 10 in the evening five days a week and frequently on Saturday.

The pool is almost ready to open. Looks nice. Locker rooms are bright and new. The pool area really looks about the same even though there is new decking and the diving area is deeper. The visitor seating is interesting being above the floor area. The teams will sit and be under the visitor seating. The entrance is on the first level above the old door into the pool.

A pause in the action, a moment to renew and refresh. Winter break marks almost the middle of the year. There are about three and a half weeks left in first semester. Seniors have their colleges apps in or almost finished. Now the wait and anticipation. Juniors are looking for PSAT scores and trying to think about that GPA that will show up on that application.

9th and 10th grade are generally out of all that. We want them to remember that all too soon those grades will become very important. But at this point they still think of those things very far in the distance. If we could get them to focus on the moment that would be great. Unfortunately the moment is the opposite gender and the driving test. Well, that is the way is has been for decades so we have to continue guiding.

It sure is quiet.
