Shifting Gears and Parenting

Tuesday night the Southwest Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) presented an excellent speak and workshop at its program. Dr. Ada Alden presented a wonderful program entitled: Parental Shift vs. Parental Stuck. Adjusting Your Parenting as Your Teen Matures.

Dr. Alden presented a clear message about the need for rules and relationships within the family. Her humorous manner came with a direct recommendation -- "be the parent in the family - that is your job." She shares ideas about consistency and flexibility, the importance of family meetings and "hug your children."

More information about Dr. Alden and her resources are included in her website: www.adaspeaks.com. Her books are also available including her most recent "Red, Yellow< Green."

The next PTSA speakers program will be Tuesday March 13 at 7 pm. The topic is Teens and Technology presented by Erin Walsh. She will describe the risks and rewards of growing up in an online world and review what the research says about how media impact young people's health and development.
