May 1 and Southwest Students

We are proud that our Southwest students are aware and concerned about events throughout the world and our country.  We encourage our students to participate in the democratic process and exercise their rights as citizens and people of the world.  Peaceful protest is a hallmark of the American way.  Almost every significant societal change has been brought about by the protest of a small group of concerned people.

A number of Southwest students joined the national and local demonstration through participation in a walkout mid-morning.   The walkout was peaceful and orderly while around the school.  The group followed the planned parade route and will join with others by noon.

We want active and engaged young people.  Education is important.  The day-to-day set of lessons and practices are important.  The personal involvement is also important and a great learning experience.  This can be an excellent opportunity to talk with your son and daughter.  How can each of us change our own worlds and neighborhoods to make this a better situation for all.?
