MPLS Levy Information Meeting Sept. 24 6:00 pm

Levies impact schools, classrooms and students

Why is the Levy Important?

*If levy is not available, the General Fund and other funds would have to absorb the costs

REFERENDUM VS LEVY
·         Levies and Referendum are two methods of collecting property taxes. Property taxes include taxes to support the school district, the city and the county.

  • Referendum is voter approved and has specific identified uses which are agreed upon by the voters.
  • Levies are voted on by the school board
  • The state sets all levy authority for schools. We can only levy for what is authorized in statute (Equity levy, Transition levy, Q comp)

The Minneapolis Public Schools Board of Education will discuss the Property Tax Levy on Tuesday, September 24, 2013.  This meeting is open to the public (no delegations) or watch from home on Channel 15.

6:00-6:30pm - Business Meeting
