BLAST Day at Southwest

Dear Southwest families,

Southwest’s annual BLAST day fundraiser is fast approaching! BLAST is an acronym for Being Loving And Sharing Together. BLAST day is an opportunity for our community to unite and do everything in our power to help a cause--chosen each year by student council representatives and faculty at Southwest. Our goal is to help another community while strengthening our own. All BLAST day proceeds will go to Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota and Ronald McDonald House, to change the lives of many children with serious illnesses within our own city who cannot afford care at a critical time in their lives. Together we hope to raise over $35,000, a BLAST Day record.

Serving as Minnesota's Children’s HospitalSM since 1924, Children’s provides 381 staffed beds at their two hospital campuses in St. Paul and Minneapolis. An independent, not-for-profit health care system, Children’s provides care through more than 12,000 inpatient visits and more than 200,000 emergency room and other outpatient visits each year. Ronald McDonald House within Children’s Hospitals opens its doors to offer families a place to stay, providing a caring community for families with seriously ill children.

In our search for an organization to work with, we had initial criteria of a local organization, a cause that our students can sympathize with, and something that can strengthen and tighten our community. Children's met and exceeded our standards, and has been a great partner as we have put together our plans for BLAST day.

We are so excited about our partnership with Children’s and look forward to a successful BLAST day, and importantly, we need your help to break our goal of $35,000. You can donate by sending a check (made out to Southwest High School) or cash with your child to school, or by visiting http://www.razoo.com/story/Blastday2013. Donations are tax deductible. Be sure to ask your child about their fundraising team (Koala, Flamingo, Platypus, Alligator, Giraffe, Penguin or Leopard).

Newly purchased toys can also be brought in to school for our toy drive for patients at Children’s.

For a short video describing the great work that Children's does in our own community, please watch: http://vimeo.com/40886479

Please, help our community and the community at Children’s Hospitals to reach our BLAST day goal! We can’t do it without you. Thank you for your support!
