Southwest Debate Team Seond in the State - Classic Debate

I'm so proud of our debaters!

We finished second overall at the State Tournament.

That means we had the second best win percentage in all divisions combined.

Novice debaters Keegan Robinson and Cole Graber-Mitchell debated their to the finals. On a three judge panel, they narrowly lost by one ballot. They were rightfully ecstatic because they earned second place in their first season of debate out of 64 novice teams. Novice debaters Weston Lowry and Olivia Custis went to the semi-finals! In a weird twist of fate they debated Cole and Keegan.

Junior Varsity debaters Rewan Abdulwahab and Holden Platt faced incredibly challenging teams. Yet, they were third seed going into the quarter finals. This is a true testament to their strength. They made it to the quarter finals, then went to the semi-finals before elimination. These juniors are going to be hard to beat next year in Varsity.

Varsity teams consisting of seniors Henry Aoki and Russell Pekala and Lily Ren and Ben Stevens did an incredible job this season. They were feared opponents all season. Not only that, they are strong leaders on our team. The younger debaters were already talking about how much they would miss them next year. Our top debaters broke into the top eight varsity teams. Going against power houses from Eastview and Stillwater they made it to the quarter finals.
