Times are Changing for 2015-16 School Year

The New Southwest Opens Fall 2016

All things are ready and the bids will go to the Board of Education late January with, Hopefully, Board approval of contract at its February 2015 meetings.

The construction is in response to increased birth rate in the attendance area, existing homes selling to families with young children and the school's popularity.  To meet the demand, the new and improved Southwest will under go construction during the 2015-16 school year and near completion in fall of 2016.

In addition to the extra 20 classrooms, the addition and renovation with include a new media center, improve Business and Film labs, air conditioning for the entire building and wonderful commons area with new kitchen and gathering area.  Once crowded and jammed bottlenecks will be opened by easy flow from one side to the other.

All of this also brings the challenge of construction starting and March of 2015 and continuing through to the fall of 2016.  In order to meet the educational demands of the students with reduced number of classrooms it is necessary to adjust some times.  Plans in the making for a 9 period day to allow for student flexibility with some students starting early and some starting later.  Plans are also being developed for different schedule for seniors and possibily some juniors need longer class periods built into a college-like alternating schedule.

At this point there is nothing definite.  The need to spread out the student enrollment over a longer school day is important. A DRAFT schedule will be prepared in January of 2015.  As plans continue more information will be available.
