Glaze Arwared Children Defense Fund Scholarship

ALEXANDER GLAZE

Minneapolis Southwest

Alexander and his twin sister were 8 when they were taken from their mother, a drug addict. They lived with their dad, but considered it just a place to live rather than family, and soon took jobs to pay for everything they needed.

He says he knew education was his ticket to a better life. He has a 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of 30. His top college choice is Stanford, followed by Northwestern and Fordham universities. Alexander wants to study law or genetics

Four local high school seniors will receive $4,000 scholarships from the Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota because of the way they "Beat the Odds" as they grew up. They were chosen from a pool of 100 applicants in the annual competition and were honored at a ceremony Friday evening with Mayors R.T. Rybak and Chris Coleman.
