Safety is our First Priority

The news is not always pleasant.  Our hearts and thoughts go to those in and surrounding the horrible news this morning.
Safety is our first priority.  Throughout the school day our outside doors are locked and we enforce the one-door entrance and exit process.  We seek to determine the location of our students and staff at all times during the day.  We are focused on who is the building and for what purpose.
At times some of these precautions may seem like inconveniences, but we are making the efforts to maintain a safe environment for our students and staff.  We practice the drills, secure the doors and remind ourselves daily that we must work together to have a safe school.
 Emergency Preparedness in our Schools:
·         Minneapolis Public Schools offers consistent procedures around responding to emergency incidents. In our standard operations, we ask all schools to keep their doors locked and entrances monitored.

·         We work with the Minneapolis Police Department and other school districts across Minnesota and nationwide to implement and share best practices.

·         We have a consistent system in place at each school and administrative site district-wide to ensure that our staff members are prepared to handle crisis situations and provide students with support.

·         Our staff members are trained in our procedures. Students participate in emergency drills at least five times a year and are familiar with what to do in the event of a crisis.

·         We continually work to ensure our preparedness. In January, we will participate in an upcoming citywide preparedness drill along with our city partners and agencies.
