Our dedicated performing arts teachers have identified some especially important needs for the coming year. Please consider giving generously toward these ambitious goals. Clarinets: $5,000 The school owns several clarinets, but not enough for the many players in the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Pep Band. We desperately need an Eb soprano clarinet and a new Bb bass clarinet for our growing program. Bluegrass and Latin Instruments: $5,000 Southwest’s guitar program is a unique, popular offering to our community. With banjos and harmonicas, our students will blend country, blues, and jazz. Mariachi-type instruments will enable them to play salsa, tango, merengue, bossa nova, Latin pop, jazz, and reggae. Help our students play this culturally-rich and varied music! Sheet Music and Accompanists: $6,000 With almost 400 students in a multitude of choirs, it gets expensive to introduce new music. And with ten or more concerts a year, we need piano accompanists so our choir director can, you know, direct! Spring Musical: $8,000 Southwest is known for its high quality, award winning annual musical. But despite its immense popularity and thrifty faculty leadership, it routinely operates in the red. Licensing rights alone can cost up to $10,000. Help to underwrite this beloved, but expensive, endeavor! THANK YOU for believing in the power of music to enrich the lives of our students.
