Southwest Math exam Finishes Victorius Season

The Southwest High School Math Team wrapped up the 2014-2015 season with another convincing win. On Monday, February 9, six of the Minneapolis high schools and one charter school met up at Washburn High School for the fifth and final meet of the year. The victory ensures that the team is moving on to the statewide invitational tournament in March.
The Southwest High School Math Team will be participating in the State Tournament for the Math League at South St. Paul High School on Monday, March 9.
Some statistics from the meet:
  • 140 total students from seven schools in the Minneapolis division participated.
  • 63 Southwest students participated in individual events at the meet.
  • 56 of the Southwest students scored at least one point by correctly answering at least one question.
  • 23 of the Southwest students scored at least five points.
  • 4 of the Southwest students scored at least 10 points out of a possible 14 points.
  • The Varsity Team (official scoring team) earned 74 of a possible 136 points.
  • The junior varsity team earned 50 of a possible 136 points, unofficially finishing in third place. The varsity team from Washburn beat them by 4 points.
It is worth noting that seven of the students from Southwest finished with enough points to put them among the top ten students in the division this season. Congratulations to Eleanor Song who earned an amazing 56 points out of a possible 70 points. Her first place finish earns her a spot at a special Invitational Event at the State Tournament. Russell Pekala also deserves congratulations for his second place finish. He earned 54 points this year.
