Southwest Grad and Track and Field Athlete starring with Portland Pilots

SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Portland Pilots Track and Field team competed at the University of Washington Invite on Friday and Saturday. Katherine Maus had a stand out meet while setting the program triple jump record (11.40 meters, 37-5 feet) and recording the second fastest 60 meter dash time (7.95) in school history.

Continuing a strong jumping presence at the meet was Nathan DeVaughn who jumped his way into finals with a 6.75 meters, 22-1.5 feet jump. This jump placed him in sixth place and is the best jump by a Pilot in 25 years.

Korey Thieleke took fifth place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.01 and won his heat in the 400 with a time of 49.39.

Julia Gullikson finished 22nd with a time of 17:39.09 in the 5000 meter run. Lindsay Tompkins, Hannah Souders, Tori Zellerhoff, and Marci Witczak recorded a 12:19.36 in the distance medley which gave them an eighth place finish.

In the 800 meter run, Lorea Ibarzabal's sixth place finish led all Pilots with a time of 2:09.50. Anne Luijten placed 19th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:32.27.

"Lorea and Anne ran perfect races and showed what this team is capable of," said women's cross country coach Ian Solof. "We will keep the focus on smart, tough racing and I know more good results will come."

The Pilots will next be in action on Feb. 13 and 14 when they return to Seattle for the Husky Classic.
