Two Great Instrumental Concerts at Southwest Monday and Tuesday, the 17th & 18th

Tonight would be a great opportunity for you all to see our students performing their hearts out.  The band and jazz kids have worked super hard these last few weeks to prepare for this evening and have some fantastic pieces to perform for you.

The jazz ensembles will have you tapping your toes to their fun, upbeat music.  A few highlights from the bands include pieces by SWHS alum Libby Larsen (’68) and Carl Schroeder (’01) as well as a tribute to the social justice movement.

Wind Ensemble will be performing Frank Ticheli’s ‘Amazing Grace’ accompanied by a collaborative slideshow of images and quotes that the students came up with to represent their own personal reactions to our current climate as a nation.

Tomorrow evening the Guitar and Orchestra students will present their concert and they’ve been working equally hard.  The Guitar Orchestra will be performing a few works including a cool version of W. C. Handy’s ‘St. Louis Blues.’

Another highlight will be the String Orchestra performing Vivaldi’s ‘Autumn’ - how appropriate for our amazing weather right now!  Chamber Orchestra will be performing two movements from Antonin Dvorak’s Serenade for Strings.

We hope that you can join us to support our students, it truly makes them proud to see teachers in the audience.

Pre-concert jazz combos begin at 6:30pm
Concerts begin at 7pm and will be roughly one hour in length.

See you there!
