Cell Phone in Class

If your senior comes home telling about using his/her cell phone in class today, that is a true statement. Modern technology has moved from the slide projector through TV and now is in the world of wireless.

Poll Everywhere is a free service that allow a teacher to prepare a series of questions with either multiple choice answers or open responses. The students then respond to the questions using their cell phone. Fast, convenient, major green and the novelty at least is exciting.

One of our senior English classes was doing a grammar review (remember how exciting that can be) and using this process. The students were engaged and challenged. The questions moved rapidly and the responses were almost instantaneous.

This is a new world for us and we continue to learn. Some parts of the room were better for sending messages than other parts. Thus, there must be some steel above that is interrupting the signal. As we go to more wireless the sending and receiving will have to be tested in every room.

Another exciting move forward.
