March 19 Area C Student Behavior Discussion

 Dear MPS Families,

Are you concerned about the behavior standards in the Minneapolis Public Schools? Are you worried about our current disciplinary practices? Would you like to address issues of bullying?

Theresa Battle
Associate Superintendent

In order to ensure that we are responding appropriately and effectively to student behavior, MPS is launching a school district and community collaborative effort to create and sustain mutually respectful climates for learning and teaching. I invite you to participate in this process; we are all in this work together and your support is very important. Partnering with you will enable us to develop tools that support our teachers and students in creating more welcoming and positive learning environments.

MPS’ Office of Family and Community Engagement and I are hosting a parent listening session facilitated by an independent consultant group to evaluate the district’s existing discipline policies and help shape our future guidelines. Our

Area C listening session is on Tuesday, March 19, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Green Central Community School, located at 3416 4th Ave. S. Interpreters will be available and childcare will be provided for children three years old and up.

If you would like to attend,
RSVP to Nathan Keysser by phone at 612.668.0651 or by email at nathan.keysser@mpls.k12.mn.us no later than Monday, March 11. We will get back to you to confirm your attendance.

If you cannot attend the event, but would like to give us your input or feedback, please contact Gael Ellis, Area C community liaison, at 612.382.0546 or gael.ellis@mpls.k12.mn.us. We encourage you to learn more about our current behavior policy by visiting: http://policy.mpls.k12.mn.us/Discipline_and_Behavior.html

We thank you for your support in helping us establish learning environments that are aligned with our overall mission of preparing every child for college and a career.

Sincerely,

Theresa Battle

Associate Superintendent
